Lebanon – Violence in Tripoli - Statement by Laurent Fabius (June 2 to 3, 2012) |
I condemn the violence that left some 15 people dead and dozens injured in Tripoli over the weekend. I extend my condolences to the families of the victims. I reaffirm France’s attachment to the security and stability of Lebanon. I pay tribute to the exemplary role played by the army and security services; they alone should be able to use armed force in Lebanon. In this troubled context, all Lebanese political actors must continue to demonstrate responsibility. I welcome President Suleiman’s wise and responsible decision to bring the political parties together for a national dialogue session on June 11. France encourages all Lebanese political actors to participate in President Suleiman’s initiative and to resume dialogue, the only way to ease the current tensions. |
