Latest developments in Gaza (January 5, 2009)

Sharing the same position of the EU and a lot of international actors on the fact Israel has entered Gaza Strip, France is demanding an immediate and durable cease-fire as a humanitarian truce, necessary prerequisite for the resumption of the peace process.

This humanitarian truce is absolutely needed for the civilian population. This is the purpose of the two missions: the European one with the Czech Presidency, the next Swedish Presidency and Bernard Kouchner as the previous French Presidency , together with Javier Solana and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and President Sarkozy’s one when he joined the Euriopean mission in Ramallah to see the Head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.
