Alain Joyandet started his career in 1974 as a journalist for the La Presse de Gray weekly information newspaper. In 1981, he founded the newspaper La Presse de Vesoul and the Radio Val de Saône radio station. He was then appointed managing director of a regional press group when it merged with Le Châtillonnais, and launched the Hebdo de Besançon weekly. Alain Joyandet also set up a state-of-the-art press printing works in Auxonne which he managed until he joined the French government in March 2008. He is the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the Groupe des Editions comtoises (Grec SA).

From 1992 to 1995, Alain Joyandet was Vice-Chairman of the Haute-Saône General Council. In June 1995, he became Mayor of the city of Vesoul. Three months later, he was elected Senator for Haute-Saône. In his capacity as Senator, he was rapporteur for the French Senate’s mission on new information and communication technologies. Then, as a Member of the Senate’s Standing Committee for Finance, Mr Joyandet became rapporteur for the urban budget, and later for the health and solidarity budgets. During his term as Senator, Mr Joyandet became Vice-Chairman of the RPR political group. In 2002, he resigned from the Senate to stand for the legislative elections.

Mr Joyandet was elected National Assembly Deputy for the Haute-Saône Department in 2002 and re-elected on 10 June 2007 in the first round of the election with 56.7% of the vote. Alain Joyandet sat on the National Assembly until March 2008 when he was appointed Secretary of State for Cooperation and the Francophonie, attached to the French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs. In his capacity as National Assembly Deputy, he was Chairman of the Commission Supérieure du Service Public des Postes et Communications Electroniques (High Public Service Commission on Postal and Electronic Communications). He was also appointed National Secretary, in charge of Federations, of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) political party.

Alain Joyandet has also been Chairman of the UMP Haute-Saône Federation since November 2002. He established the Club des Démocrates together with ten other parliamentarians under the leadership of the politician Pierre Méhaignerie.

Alain Joyandet was born on 15 January 1954 in Dijon (Côte-d’Or Department). He is married and has three children.
