Meeting between Laurent Fabius and Vuk Jeremic, president of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly (August 1, 2012)
Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will welcome Vuk Jeremic, president of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, today.
Their meeting is in connection with the upcoming UNGA session on September 15. Mr. Jeremic, Serbia’s former foreign minister, will succeed the Qatari Nassir Abdulaziz al-Nasser, president of the 66th session.
The foreign minister and Mr. Jeremic will discuss current UN priorities as well as issues that will be central to UNGA discussions. Foremost among them will be the reform of global governance and development issues, including the follow-up given to the Rio+20 conference and the concrete improvement of development operations, which will be examined in depth during this session. As for the international context, marked by the Syrian crisis, the minister will underscore France’s commitment to seeing the UN play a major role in crisis prevention and resolution.
The minister will assure Mr. Jeremic of France’s support for his management of the General Assembly’s work and debates.
