Tourism – Visit by Jean-Yves Le Drian to Giverny (10 July 2017)

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will conduct a visit to Giverny on July 10 focusing on the promotion of France as a tourist destination, notably in terms of cultural tourism, during a meeting with the stakeholders involved in the “Paris-Normandy-Impressionism” destination contract.

The destination contract mechanism, created by the government, is aimed at mobilizing actors on the ground in order to strengthen the development of high-value tourist attractions and facilities. 22 destination contracts in mainland France and its overseas territories have been signed since 2014.

This visit will provide an opportunity for Jean-Yves Le Drian to outline his main areas of focus with respect to support for the tourism sector and to take stock of tourist numbers in the first quarter of 2017.

France has 44,666 classified or registered historic monuments. In 2015, tourism consumption in France amounted to €158.6 billion, €2.4 billion of which was linked to culture, i.e. visits to museums, shows and other cultural activities.
