International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22, 2014)
On the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity, dedicated this year to island biodiversity, France reaffirms its commitment to the preservation of the planet, a priority of Laurent Fabius’s action.
France has ratified the major international conventions on biodiversity. Its constant commitment to international cooperation on biodiversity was reaffirmed in the guidelines for the ecological transition sent by the prime minister to the minister of foreign affairs and international development in 2013 and 2014.
Island biodiversity is a priority of our action in this field. France is notably spearheading plans for an international conference on biodiversity and climate change in the European overseas territories, due to take place from October 22 to 25, 2014, in Guadeloupe. It is also an active member of the International Coral Reef Initiative and works to ensure their protection within the framework of the French Coral Reef Initiative.
