Annick Girardin’s participation in the “Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate” (Mexico, May 8 to 9, 2014)
Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony, attended the “Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate” in Mexico from May 8 to 9.
This meeting of the major greenhouse gas emitting countries is an informal forum to promote discussion and provide political impetus. The meeting in Mexico formed part of the preparations for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference and was aimed at facilitating dialogue between the industrial and emerging countries, notably with respect to their respective commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It also provided an opportunity to discuss the key negotiating points, such as the challenges of adapting to climate change and funding issues.
During her visit, Annick Girardin also met with Juan Manuel Gomez Robledo, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, and Guerra Abud, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, in order to discuss bilateral cooperation in preparation for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference and with respect to green and inclusive growth. She visited the area of Xochimilco, where a project to restore the natural environment is being conducted with the support of the French Development Agency.
