Global warming - Statement issued by Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Delphine Batho, Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, and Pascal Canfin, Minister Delegate for Development (June 26, 2013)
France welcomes the measures set out on June 25 by President Obama aimed at combating global warming. They signal the United States’ commitment to this major problem and should help provide positive momentum to the international negotiations.
For its part, France is fully mobilized to combat global warming, at the national level through the dialogue on the energy transition, as well as at the European and international levels. We are taking steps in order to be able to conclude, in 2015, through COP 21, a new ambitious agreement, applicable to all countries.
It is essential to combat global warming, notably for the most vulnerable countries. It also represents an opportunity. We can change our production methods, innovate and expand into new markets, markets oriented toward the environmental transition.
We consider the fight against climate change to be a top priority; the minister of foreign affairs together with the minister of ecology, sustainable development and energy are fully committed to this fight.
