Fight against climate change - Laurent Fabius’s visit to Svalbard (July 3 to 4, 2014)
Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, traveled to Svalbard from July 3 to 4, 2014, at the invitation of his Norwegian counterpart, Borge Brende. This Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean is an emblematic location in the fight against climate change.
In preparation for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, the two ministers reviewed our cooperation with respect to the fight against climate change. This visit provided an opportunity for Laurent Fabius to visit the French-German Polar Research Station on the island of Spitsbergen and to take stock of French research in the Arctic.
The ministers also discussed key international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the crises in the Middle East, as well as the development of our bilateral exchanges, notably in the economic and scientific fields.
