International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust (January 27, 2014)
On the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust and for the Prevention of Crimes against Humanity, France reaffirms its attachment to the fight against anti-Semitism as well as the active promotion of efforts to preserve, and pass on to new generations in France and throughout the world, the memory of the Holocaust.
France is a member of the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance), the intergovernmental organization that promotes actions devoted to Holocaust education, research and remembrance. As such, it actively supports the “Aladdin Project” launched at UNESCO in 2009, which aims to increase awareness of the Holocaust throughout the world, notably by translating certain major texts into Arabic, such as Primo Levi’s “If This Is a Man.” This initiative became a reality thanks to the Foundation for the Memory of the Holocaust, which plays an irreplaceable role.
France also supports the initiatives which, like the partnership between the Institut français and the Shoah Memorial, aim to raise awareness of Holocaust remembrance.
