International Criminal Justice Day (July 17, 2014)
On the occasion of International Criminal Justice Day, which marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court, France reaffirms its commitment in support of international justice. International justice is one of the foundations of the fight against impunity, as well as of lasting peace.
France actively supported the establishment of an international criminal court, the only permanent court with universal jurisdiction competent to prosecute the alleged perpetrators of the most serious crimes – notably crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes.
Today, it encourages the states that are not yet parties to the Rome Statute to accede to it and to adapt their legislation, notably in order to fully cooperate with the court.
