Ms. Yamina Benguigui’s participation in the second Francophone Women’s Forum (Kinshasa, March 3 to 4, 2014)
Ms. Yamina Benguigui, Minister Delegate for la Francophonie and Personal Representative of the President of the French Republic for la Francophonie, participated in the second World Francophone Women’s Forum in Kinshasa.
This event brought together hundreds of women from throughout the French-speaking world as well as high-ranking political figures such as Ms. Catherine Samba Panza, Transitional President of the Central African Republic, and Ms. Aminata Touré, Prime Minister of Senegal.
Following the first forum in Paris in March 2013 on the theme of violence against women in situations of conflict, this second forum was devoted to the role of women in development and was structured around three workshops: women and education, the empowerment of women, and women and peace. In particular, it dealed with the education of girls up to the age of 16.
This is a priority of our diplomatic action. Ms. Benguigui has requested that a solemn declaration with specific reference to the rights of women be adopted at the next Francophonie Summit to be held in Dakar in November 2014 on the theme of “Women and young people: vectors of peace, development actors.”
