Laurent Fabius’s participation in the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Luxembourg, June 23, 2014)
Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, participated in the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on June 23.
Discussions were focused on the following issues:
Iraq: In the presence of Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, UN Special Representative for Iraq, the ministers reviewed the situation in Iraq and the EU’s response;
Syria: Discussions focused on support for the political transition as well as on humanitarian assistance;
Libya: The ministers discussed the most recent political and security developments as well as the response to illegal migration flows;
Ukraine: Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the measures announced by President Poroshenko. The ministers reviewed the situation on the ground and Russia’s role. They also discussed the future EU civilian mission aimed at reforming the security sector in Ukraine;
Eastern Partnership: There was an update on the signing, scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the European Council on June 26 and 27, of the association agreements with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
