The French Minister of Foreign Affairs has made economic diplomacy a top priority of his action. It was in this connection that a new Business and the International Economy Directorate was created on 1 March 2013. This Directorate will be the gateway to the Foreign Ministry for businesses, big corporations and SMEs alike. It will also ensure that their interests are taken into proper consideration during negotiations likely to impact their activities, in particular as regards issues relating to global economic regulation.
The French Foreign Minister, Mr Laurent Fabius, has appointed Mr Jacques Maire, a diplomat with broad and acknowledged experience, notably in the economic field, at the head of the Business and the International Economy Directorate. Mr Maire will be responsible for effectively coordinating the action of our embassies, alongside the Ministry of the Economy and the various economic and social actors concerned.
In addition to the diplomatic functions he has exercised, in particular within the Foreign Ministry and the French Permanent Representation to the European Union, Mr Jacques Maire has held important responsibilities in a number of government departments (Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Spatial Planning and the Environment, Ministry of Employment and Solidarity). He also has solid experience in the private sector where he held a number of executive positions within the AXA Group from 2002 to 2012.
