Cultural diplomacy – “Nuit des Idées” (“Night of Ideas”) at the Quai d’Orsay (Paris, January 27, 2016)

At Laurent Fabius’s initiative, the Institut français offered an unparalleled experience at the Quai d’Orsay : the “Nuit des Idées.”

Intellectuals, artists and architects took the floor from 6:00 pm to 2:00 am in order to imagine the world of tomorrow. Entertainment, a temporary bookstore and readings combined to make this an exceptional event aimed at exchanging ideas in a convivial atmosphere.

The “Nuit des Idées” event, which was opened to all by reservation only and subject to availability, touched on issues that are key to contemporary discussions. Borders, citizenship, diversity, health, resources, and spirituality are all issues that were discussed among leading French and international personalities: Stephen Breyer, Pierre Rosanvallon, Bruno Latour, Rem Khoolaas, Saskia Sassen, Laurence Tubiana. Numerous writers and philosophers from the new literary and intellectual scene also read from their works.

Laurent Fabius thereby wanted to offer a stage for the international circulation of ideas to which France is attached.
