Annick Girardin’s participation in the “Abu Dhabi Ascent” seminar (May 4, 2014)
Ms. Annick Girardin,Minister of State for Development and Francophony, traveled to the United Arab Emirates on May 4 to participate in the “Abu Dhabi Ascent” seminar. This ministerial meeting, convened by the UN secretary-general, is aimed at preparing for the Climate Summit that he is hosting in September 2014.
During this visit, Ms. Girardin will met with the UN secretary-general, Ms. Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, as well as the French businesses and regional and local authorities participating in this event.
The September 2014 summit should allow the heads of state and government to give impetus to the negotiations on the framework convention, in preparation for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. It should also launch a series of initiatives aimed at mobilizing the international community, businesses and regional and local authorities to take concrete action to reduce greenhouse gases. Indeed, immediate action is needed in order to limit climate change and to conclude in Paris, a new international legally binding agreement.
