Festival of Europe: focus on youth/ Debate with young French people on the future of Europe – Communiqué issued by Thierry Repentin (May 7, 2013)

Thierry Repentin, Minister Delegate for European Affairs, wanted the Festival of Europe to focus on youth, a priority for President Hollande. On the occasion of the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, he will meet, on May 9, with the representatives of the European Youth Parliament as well as French lycée students who participated in a European election campaign simulation. It will provide an opportunity to highlight the European initiatives promoted by France aimed at responding to youth concerns.

Mr. Repentin will attend a presentation of the “Eurolycées” project organized by the “Association Civisme et Démocratie” (Citizenship and Democracy Association) at the European Parliament Information Office in France alongside European deputies. On this occasion, the minister delegate will exchange views with the lycée students on Europe. The “Eurolycées” project allowed lycée students to develop ideas and recommendations on the EU’s energy and environmental future during European election campaign simulations.

At 3:00 pm at the Maison de l’Europe in Paris, Mr. Repentin will exchange views with members of the European Youth Parliament. Some of the areas that this Parliament has worked on include citizenship, youth employment, housing, agriculture, energy policy and economic recovery.

Mr. Repentin will also meet with associations working to promote the “European Year of Citizens” and with visitors to the European Village on the square in front of Paris City Hall, as part of the inauguration of the “Faites l’Europe” program.

Lastly, at 5:30 pm he will respond to questions from monde.fr readers during an online debate.
