logo YEI 200

The Young Entrepreneurs Initiative is a trans-Atlantic platform to support young entrepreneurs keen to launch an innovative technology start-up in France. It was set up in 2005 by the scientific service of the French Consulate in Boston, which is responsible for information and technology transfer for the whole of the United States.

The programme is one of the measures presented at the government seminar on attractiveness on 22 May 2006.

The aim of the "Young Entrepreneurs Initiative" is to provide specific support to US entrepreneurs with innovative projects, involving all the key players in innovative business start-ups in France.

Programme of exchanges with the United States on technology transfer practices

The dominant position of the United States in such strategic sectors as Life Sciences or ICT is the result of massive federal government investment in research and development and staunch support for its universities in protecting and commercialising the results of their research work. Although funding is coming under increasing competitive pressure and is increasingly targeted, the United States nonetheless possess vast experience and a wealth of best practice.

In 2007, the Science and Technology Mission of the French Embassy in Washington set up a programme of exchanges of technology transfer professionals between the United States and France. The programme, which was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and the AUTM (Association of University Technology Managers), is intended to initiate an ongoing cycle of exchanges between France and the United States on best practices in technology transfer, by working on concrete cases.

Once the different missions are completed, benchmarking of French and US practices will be carried out and the results made available to the profession as a whole.

The programme will also be extended to other countries in the future.

The initiative will be pursued in 2010 by further exchanges between senior officers of research body and university transfer centres, selected on the basis of calls for projects.
