The Public Investment Bank (Bpifrance)
The Public Investment Bank (Bpifrance) is a state-owned organization set up on the initiative of the French President and designed to provide financial backing for promising small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and intermediate-sized enterprises (ETIs) in all French regions.
Bpifrance offers companies with backing at all stages in their lives, from their setting up to their listing on the stock exchange, and from credit to equity.
International action by the Caisse des Dépôts Group
The Caisse des Dépôts Group is a public group and long-term investor serving the general interest and France’s economic development.
The Caisse des Dépôts Group invests over the long term mostly in France, as a minority shareholder alongside private investors.
It conducts two types of investment:
general interest investments focused on the development of territories and SMEs;
long-term financial investments (equity, real estate, risk capital, infrastructure projects) to finance its general interest missions.
The Caisse des Dépôts Group is present in more than 90 countries through the activities of its subsidiaries. Its role as a long-term institutional investor is central to its mission.
Since 2007, the Group has developed its action at European and international level:
it is present in EU institutions, in particular through its representative office in Brussels;
it helps structure a long-term investment offer in the Mediterranean and in Africa;
through the Long-Term Investors Club and the Institutional Investors Roundtable, the Group is developing a European and global network of major long-term investors with the support of CDC International (in French) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Caisse des Dépôts Group).
The role of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) and of the Union of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry Abroad (UCCIFE)
The French Foreign Ministry works in close cooperation with Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) and the Union of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry Abroad (UCCIFE) in order to best serve the interests of French businesses.
Chambers of Commerce and Industry are responsible for defending the interests of businesses with public authorities to increase their competitiveness and that of their territories, and to provide them with suitable and effective services (locally and internationally) at all stages in their development.
The Union of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry Abroad (UCCIFE) brings together and leads 107 French Chambers of Commerce and Industry Abroad (CCIFE) numbering 154 branches in 77 countries. UCCIFE was founded in 1907 and brings together, represents, coordinates and develops the network of French CCIs abroad.
The role of the French Business Confederation (MEDEF)The French Foreign Ministry works in particular with MEDEF International, the international branch of MEDEF, whose activity in the service of businesses is a major vehicle for economic diplomacy.
Moreover, MEDEF lobbies all policy-makers at local, regional and European level on a permanent basis in order to emphasize the corporate viewpoint.
Role of the General Confederation of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CGPME)The General Confederation of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CGPME) is a private and independent interprofessional employers’ organization. The CGPME represents and defends all small- and medium-sized enterprises in all sectors taken together (industry, trade, services, craft industry) at national and international level, with the public authorities and social partners. The CGPME brings together professional federations and interprofessional territorial bodies.
The role of Chambers of Trades and Handicrafts (CMA)Chambers of Trades and Handicrafts are established throughout France. Through proximity relations, they carry out public service missions that are crucial to the structuring of craft industry and the development of businesses.
The craft industry is a growth sector and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking to step up its collaboration with Chambers of Trades and Handicrafts in implementing effective and efficient economic diplomacy.
