Babar, who this year celebrates his seventy-fifth birthday, has been chosen by the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development to raise awareness among children about protecting and caring for the environment through a guide called "Babar, le P’tit Écolo" (Babar, Mini Ecologist). In the summer of 2006 about 425,000 copies have been distributed to holidaymakers on beaches and at toll booths on the Paris-Rhine-Rhône motorways.
