The Musée d’Orsay is 25 years old. As the anniversary drew near, the museum was in need of a facelift. The arrangement and lighting of the exhibition spaces in particular have benefited from significant changes. The work involved took a total of two years.

France in the 21st century boasts a cultural diversity and richer creation than ever before. Alongside the traditional values of its historic art heritage, new establishments and practices are arising. While the Paris region contains most sites and events, the cultural offering is now better distributed throughout the country. The arts are an important part of France’s attractiveness to an increasing number of French and foreign visitors.

The information media, as in other countries, are undergoing upheavals due to new technology. Although this has weakened the daily press, a particular feature of France is that magazines continue to sell. France’s major media groups have realised that survival depends on bringing their brand names to new forms of distribution.
