A renewed Musée d'OrsayThe Musée d’Orsay is 25 years old. As the anniversary drew near, the museum was in need of a facelift. The arrangement and lighting of the exhibition spaces in particular have benefited from significant changes. The work involved took a total of two years.

Whereas under the Ancien Régime the arts were patronised by the King, the new Republic was quick to recognise the status of the artist and copyright law, make a museum of the Louvre palace with its royal collections, and nationalise historical monuments, archives and libraries, considered to be the property of the nation as a whole.
This “national heritage” had to be protected, maintained and open to all.
