Created at the end of the 80s, Francophone courses are defined as “courses conducted in the French language within higher education establishments in countries where French is not the dominant language in higher education” [1].
These courses, which now exceed 220, offer teaching in most of the fundamental fields: political science, public and private law, economics, company management and administration, international trade, sciences, engineering, agronomy and food processing industry as well as tourism, the environment, medical and paramedical sciences, without forgetting journalism, literature, fine arts and architecture.
Francophone courses are being developed in central and eastern Europe, in several countries in the Mediterranean basin, in Asia and in Latin America. In central or eastern Europe, courses (more than 100), initially established to support industrial modernisation, are now being developed in the fields of political science, law and management, for some countries supporting membership of the European Union.
Some of these courses are grouped within large Francophone establishments such as the Université Francophone Galatasaray in Turkey, the Université Saint-Joseph in Lebanon and the Université Senghor in Alexandria.
In a world where the increasing need for education and training requires a wide variety of clear offers adapted to the different national realities and structures, the “Francophone courses” formula is an integral part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ work to promote French higher education abroad.
Their objective in this respect is threefold:
to support institutional change and / or technological and economic development in the countries in which they have been established
to confirm and increase French influence, and that of language, culture, approach to life in society and major international challenges
to contribute to making French establishments international. The formula is implemented in liaison with partners such as the Ministry of National Education, French higher education establishments and private foundations or associations: Fondation Nationale pour l’Enseignement de la Gestion des Entreprises - national foundation for company management education -(FNEGE), Société Française d’Exportation des Ressources Educatives - French society for the export of educational resources - (SFERE) as well as Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie - the Francophone university agency - (AUF).
Each course has an information sheet, which includes the name of any partners, reception structures and the length of the course. In relation to the last criterion, it should be noted that as the objective is to provide complete courses, approved by at least one of the partners, the approvals are specified for each course. For each course, the information sheets also indicate the level of education required, the means of selection and the creation or start date
For further information we recommend you contact with those responsible and the structures, contact information for which is given on the information sheets.
