Fernando Solanas was born in Argentina in 1936. He studied law, drama, musical composition and directed two short films: "Seguir andando" (1962) and "Reflexión ciudadana" (1963). It was during the second half of the 60s that he became influent in Argentina and abroad.In 1966, with Octovio Getino, he founded Cine Liberación, an independent group for the production and distribution of films. As a member of this group he directed "La Hora de los hornos" (1968), and two feature length documentaries: "La Revolution justicialista " (1971) and "Actualización politica et doctrinaria" (1971). Then came "Los Hijos de Fierro" (1975), "La Mirada de los otros" (1980), "Tangos, l’exil de Gardel" (1985), "Sur" (1988), "El Viaje" (1992) and "La Nube" (1998).
