Lost in Patagonia, Valdivia shares his time between his occasional rustling and a fleeting love affair with a swimming instructor he meets when trying to steal her car. The young woman also turns out to be a bar hostess in a disreputable establishment. Their relationship is a failure.
Disappointed by this failed relationship, Valdivia travels to the South, as if trying to reach the end of the world. Living in desolate, uninhabited plains he attempts to keep his part of an unusual bargain, encouraged by an anonymous employer who gives him instructions over the phone.
His quest then loses all meaning.
