Conclusion and Research Prospects
The Sovjan site thus appears today as potentially offering the greatest wealth for studying the lakeside occupation dynamic in the Balkan regions. Above and beyond digs, the Mission’s objective is to trace back the history of population settlement in the Korçë Plain over the long term, something that can only be achieved by methodical prospecting in which archaeologists and specialists in Earth sciences and the environment will continue to work in cooperation. The first prospecting campaign, which will begin in 2007, will be focused, as a priority, on the zone that appears, in light of the preparatory research (geomorphologic studies, SIG development, topography) as having the greatest likelihood of being settled by people.
