The excavation at Dja’de el Mughara was the first French archaeological expedition to work as part of the rescue campaign linked to the construction of the Tishrin dam on the Syrian Euphrates.
Since 1991 seven campaigns of soundings and excavations have revealed archaeological levels belonging mainly to the aceramic Neolithic (Early PPNB, second half of the 9th millenium BC cal.).
This site also has two more recent periods : the ceramic Neolithic (pre-Halaf period, beginning of the 6th millenium BC) and the Early Bronze age (3rd millenium BC).
