
Khirokitia settlement which foundation occured during the 7th millenium illustrates the apogee of the Cypriot Aceramic Neolithic. It gives the opportunity to study the evolution of this civilization which, according to the last discoveries, appeared on the island at the end of the 9th millenium.
Khirokitia is a large village inhabited by farmers. It is located on a hill and it is cut off from the outside world by an impressive wall in which access points were arranged. The village network is dense. The basic architectural unit is a circular construction made of stone and mud, with a flat roof. The dead were buried in pits inside the house.
The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry (goat/sheep and pig). Besides, deer was hunted.
