Launch of the Call for Applications for the Mentorship Program for Young European Women in Politics

Today, women are still significantly underrepresented at all levels of decision-making worldwide, and gender equality in political life remains an ideal to strive for.

In this context, the French Secretary of State for Europe, Mrs. Laurence Boone, in collaboration with UNESCO and Sciences Po, is launching the Mentorship Program for Young European Women in Politics.

This mentorship aims to highlight the exceptional commitment of European women under 40 in politics, emphasizing their contribution to a fairer, more inclusive, resilient, and democratic Europe.

The laureates will benefit from exclusive mentorship with high-level European personalities, providing personalized support to advance their political careers.

Mentors for the first edition:

  • Elisabeth Borne (FR - Prime Minister)
  • Roberta Metsola (MT – President of the European Parliament)
  • Christine Lagarde (FR - President of the European Central Bank)
  • Nadia Calviño Santamaría (ES – President of the European Investment Bank)
  • Margrethe Vestager (DK – European Commissioner for Competition)
  • Yaël Braun-Pivet (FR - President of the National Assembly)
  • Dalia Grybauskaitė (LT – Former President)

Timeline and selection process:

The call for applications is open until February 1st, 2024.

You can apply by completing the attached form (PDF - 65 Ko) and sending it, along with your CV in French or English, to mentorat.europe at diplomatie.gouv.fr.

A pre-selection to verify the eligibility criteria will be conducted by Sciences Po and UNESCO. Subsequently, a jury composed of ten European journalists will select the 3 laureates.

The presentation ceremony for the selected mentees will take place on the morning of March 14, 2024. Please make arrangements to be present.

Selection criteria:

  • Be a woman
  • Be between 18 and 40 years old on March 14, 2024
  • Be a citizen of a European Union country
  • Have been elected for at least 5 years or be a member of a national government
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a fairer, more inclusive, resilient, and democratic Europe as well as to gender equality
  • Demonstrate a need for leadership skills and career management, considering current and potential future roles
  • Demonstrate a clear motivation to be mentored
  • Show integrity
