Relations with the European Union

The EU had suspended its aid to Sudan since March 1990. After the peace agreement, the EU and Sudan signed a document defining the context and priorities of the cooperation. With resources set aside from the previous EDFs and those scheduled under the 9th EDF, the EU has scheduled €405M for the period 2005-2010. The priories are food security, rural development, education, assistance for governance and the rule of law, as well as support for peacekeeping (the ESDP operation and peace facility in favour of the African Union mission in the Darfur region of Sudan, AMIS, until the deployment of UNAMID in January 2008).
