Sudan

· Visits to Paris: Messrs. el Jaz and Tidjani Fidail, emissaries of President Bachir, received by the French President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in January 2004, visit of the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Hussein (February 2004, meeting with Mr. Sarkozy, Minister of the Interior). The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Othman Ismail, was received by Messrs. Barnier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Darcos, Minister Delegate for Cooperation, Development and Francophony, in June 2004, visit of Executive Vice-President Salva Kiir in March 2006, and of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lam Akol, in June 2006, of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deng Alor, on 19 June and 16 July 2008, and of Nafie Ali Nafie, advisor to President Bachir, in October 2008.

· Visits to Sudan: Mr. Muselier, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (June 2004) to Khartoum, Darfur, and Kurmuk, in the SPLA zone, where he was received by John Garang, Mr. Barnier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Darfur (July 2004), Mr. Douste Blazy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Khartoum and Darfur (July 2005 - and again in November 2007), Mr. Kouchner to Khartoum (June 2007), Ms. Yade, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, to Khartoum and Darfur (October 2007).

· Meeting between Presidents Bachir and Sarkozy alongside the EU-Africa Summit in Lisbon (December 2007).

· France opened an embassy office in April 2006 in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, with the aim of developing relations with the autonomous government of South Sudan, in the context of the CPA.
