Sudan

The Security Council welcomed on February 9 in New York the announcement of the results of the referendum on self-determination of southern Sudan, a major step in the comprehensive peace agreement of 2005. France has encouraged the continuation of the mediation panel of the African Union and urged the Sudanese parties to continue discussions on post-referendum arrangements in the same constructive spirit.
