While the humanitarian situation is, day after day, becoming increasingly troubling in Abyei and in South Kordofan, France urges the authorities of North and South Sudan to demonstrate responsibility in order to work towards achieving a swift political settlement to this crisis and to bring an end to the suffering of the civilian populations, the principle victims of the current fighting.

· Visits to Sudan: Mr. Muselier, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (June 2004) to Khartoum, Darfur, and Kurmuk, in the SPLA zone, where he was received by John Garang, Mr. Barnier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Darfur (July 2004), Mr. Douste Blazy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Khartoum and Darfur (July 2005 - and again in November 2007), Mr. Kouchner to Khartoum (June 2007), Ms. Yade, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, to Khartoum and Darfur (October 2007).
· Meeting between Presidents Bachir and Sarkozy alongside the EU-Africa Summit in Lisbon (December 2007) the International Conference on Financing for Development in Doha (November 2008).
· France opened an embassy office in April 2006 in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, with the aim of developing relations with the autonomous government of South Sudan, in the context of the CPA.
