With trade reaching €6.2b in 2007 (22% of Morocco’s foreign trade), France is Morocco’s leading trading partner. France is Morocco’s leading supplier(French exports stood at €3.5b in 2007, which accounts for 16% of Morocco’s imports) as well as its leading customer (it absorbs 28% of the exports from Morocco, or a value of €2.5b).

Morocco’s leading public creditor (13% of total debts), France is also the leading foreign investor (an average of €1.18b a year, i.e. 56.7% of the total investments received by Morocco).

France is still the leading country of origin of transfers of Moroccans living abroad (MRE): €1.9b in 2006, i.e. 43% of the total MRE transfers, up 21% compared with 2005. Our country is also the leading source of Morocco’s tourist revenue, with 1.6 million tourists in 2007, i.e. 22.6% of the total (not including the MRE living in France), representing more than a quarter of the €3.7b in revenue generated by this sector.

The Franco-Moroccan Economic Impetus Group, composed of French and Moroccan business executives, was established in 2005, in order to better develop the synergies that exist between our two countries.

French businesses have nearly 500 subsidiaries in Morocco, employing more than 114,000 people. The many Moroccan companies directed by French entrepreneurs or with French capital should also be added to this figure. According to the Banque de France, total French FDI in Morocco stood at €4.7b in 2005, ranking Morocco 18th in terms of French FDI recipient countries.

France is Morocco’s leading bilateral lender, with €220M in 2006, i.e. 53% of the total bilateral aid of the OECD countries. France’s total contribution, including through international organizations, is €270M, i.e. 40% of the total aid from the OECD.
