Our relations have intensified since Lithuania joined the European Union. The upcoming signing of a strategic bilateral partnership will strengthen the context of these relations.

France’s increased involvement in the region plus its new directions concerning relations between the ESDP and NATO have in particular been very well received.

This context has made it possible to give fresh impetus to our ties on the basis of European convergences.
In 2008, several ministers went to Lithuania, including Defence Minister Morin, Agricultural Minister Barnier, and Mr. Borloo, Minister of State, Minister of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Land-Use Planning.
In February 2009, Lithuania’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Usackas, had meetings in Paris with Mr. Kouchner and Mr. Le Maire.
In September 2009, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite made an official visit to Paris. A strategic Franco-Lithuanian partnership declaration was signed at this time.
In February 2010, the Secretary of State for European Affairs visited Vilnius in the context of his trip to the three Baltic countries devoted to security issues.
