  • Libya – Murder of Ethiopian Christians by Daesh (19.04.15)

    This horrific crime, for which Daesh has claimed responsibility, also underscores the urgent need for a political solution to the crisis in Libya. We support the process of dialogue launched by Mr. Bernardino Leon, the goal of which is to allow Libyans to present a united front against terrorism.

  • Libya – Attacks against the Embassies of South Korea and Morocco in Tripoli (12-13.04.15)

    France condemns the attacks targeted against the Embassies of South Korea and Morocco in Tripoli on Sunday night.

    We extend our condolences to the victims’ families. France assures the Korean and Moroccan authorities as well as all Libyans of its solidarity.

    As Mr. Laurent Fabius indicated on April 12 alongside his German, American, British, Spanish and Italian colleagues, we call on all participants in the dialogue, which will resume this week under the leadership of Mr. Bernardino León, to reach an agreement on the formation of a national unity government and to achieve an unconditional ceasefire.

    France welcomes the efforts of Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Bernardino Leon, as well as the announcement that an inter-Libyan political dialogue meeting will take place in Geneva.

  • Joint statement on Libya - Ministerial meeting (03.12.14)

    The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, the US Secretary of State, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, met in Brussels on December 3, 2014 to assess the current situation in Libya.

    France supports the initiative launched by Bernardino Leon, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, who has invited the parties to initiate a dialogue on September 29.

  • Libya – Harlem Desir’s participation in the “5+5 Dialogue” Conference (16.09.14)

    This conference will bring together the “5+5 Dialogue” countries as well as representatives of other Mediterranean countries (Cyprus and Greece) and neighbors of Libya (Egypt, Niger, Sudan and Chad). Bernadino León, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, is also expected to attend. The EU, the Arab League and the Union for the Mediterranean will also be represented.

    France condemns the murder of an ICRC delegate in Libya. It extends its condolences to his family and friends. Full light must be shed on this horrific act and those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.

  • Libya – Meeting between Mr. Fabius and Mr. Zeidan (18.02.14)

    Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Ali Zeidan, Prime Minister of Libya, to reaffirm France’s support for the transition and its institutions. He reaffirmed to him our attachment to the respect for the democratic legitimacy resulting from the elections of July 7, 2012.

    France condemns the violence that left many civilians dead in Tripoli on November 15 and 16. It extends its condolences to the victims’ families and expresses its solidarity with the injured.

  • Libya – Assassination of Abdelsalam al-Mismari (29.07.13)

    France condemns the brutal murder of Abdelsalam al-Mismari. It extends its condolences to his family and friends. Abdelsalam al-Mismari waged a courageous battle in support of democracy and human rights under the Qaddafi regime during the Libyan revolution and the transition.

  • Incidents in Libya (02.05.13)

    France strongly condemns the besieging by militiamen of the various Libyan ministries. Such unacceptable acts impede the proper functioning of the government authorities. These repeated incidents underline the urgent need to re-establish security in Libya.
