Foreign and European Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner received José Miguel Insulza, Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS) on February 14.

Mr. Kouchner and Mr. Insulza discussed the matter of the hostages held by the FARC, the situation in Haiti, human rights and the efforts to combat drug-trafficking.

Before this meeting, José Miguel Insulza had a working luncheon hosted by Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Secretary Rama Yade.

The mission of the OAS, a forum for dialogue and mediation, is to strengthen peace and security on the American continent and in the Caribbean, and to prevent and resolve conflicts.

France has had observer status at the OAS since 1972. It is represented there by an ambassador.
