Extension of the Maskiot settlement in the northern region of the Jordan valley (May 18, 2009)
While a call for tenders has just been launched to build new housing, France recalls its condemnation of the decision to extend the Maskiot settlement in the northern region of the Jordan valley, on the occupied West Bank.
This decision goes against Israel’s commitments, especially regarding the Road Map. Settlement activity is a major obstacle to peace.
France, like the rest of the international community, calls on Israeli authorities to halt all settlement activity completely and immediately and to refrain from taking unilateral action which pre-judges the final status of the Palestinian Territories.
