Unanimous adoption of SCR 1859 (December 23, 2008)
We hail the unanimous adoption of SCR 1859.
Having always supported Iraq’s recovery of its full sovereignty, we are delighted that an important new step has just been taken on this path, with the resolution ending the mandate of the multinational force on December 31.
The resolution also makes it possible to maintain the “development fund for Iraq,” which could continue to function according to a renewed management system in order to best assist with the country’s reconstruction.
Attached to the unity, sovereignty and integrity of a democratic Iraq, France will continue in the future, as it has done thus far, to support the Iraqi government’s efforts, in conjunction with all concerned actors, to take all necessary measure permitting Iraq to once again become a nation with all the prerogatives that entails, and fully integrated in its regional and international environment.
