ReadBeyond Napoleon’s expedition, perceived as the start of Egypt’s “rebirth” as well as a colonial adventure, Egyptians refer more readily, to celebrate the uniqueness and historic depth of our bilateral relationship, to the extremely close ties that prevailed between our two countries throughout the nineteenth century, and to our contribution to Egypt’s modernization and development.
Nowadays, the frequency of political contacts at the highest level, the convergence of views on Middle Eastern issues, especially the peace process, the Franco-Egyptian co-presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean, the rank of leading investor in Egypt, which has returned to France in 2008, and finally the maintenance in this country of a French-language education to 45,000 students, are the hallmarks of the uniqueness of the relationship between France and Egypt.
