France and Congo maintain intense bilateral relations punctuated by numerous visits.

The French President’s visit to Brazzaville on 26-27 March 2009 follows that of 2005 during the regional summit on the Forests of the Congo Basin and was very appreciated by the Congolese government.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs made a visit to Brazzaville on 9 January 2010. It was the opportunity to bring up bilateral relations, the regional situation and the aftermath of the Copenhagen summit on the issue of the forests of the Congo Basin, in particular.

Congo’s President, Denis Sassou Nguesso, participated in the Nice summit in May 2010 and was in Paris on 14 July for the celebrations of the 50th anniversay of Independence. Senate President Gérard Larcher represented the French President on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Congo’s independence on 15 August 2010.

Working visits to Paris of President Sassou Nguesso (September 2002, February and September 2003, July 2004, November 2005, five in 2006, July and December 2007, December 2009), meeting with the French President on 26 April 2010, and many ministerial visits (Mr. Bowao, Congolese Cooperation Minister, in August 2007 and August 2008, Mr. Obongo, Finance Minister, in September 2009 and March 2010, Mr. Djombo, Minister of Forest Economy in 2009 and 2010).
