Francophonie (French-speaking world)

Quebec has established itself as a passionate champion of Francophonie and cultural diversity. It has the status of “participating government” and is the third-leading contributor to the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (International Organization of the Francophonie). The 12th summit will be held in Quebec City in 2008, during the commemoration of the city’s 400th anniversary.

On 5 May 2006, the Canadian and Quebec governments signed an agreement authorizing Quebec permanent representation within the Canadian delegation at UNESCO.
