Bilateral trade is dominated by three high value-added sectors (aeronautical equipment, pharmaceuticals and information technologies), as well as by energy products (uranium and petroleum, oils and lubricants). Bilateral trade of goods and services is approximately CAD 9 billion.

While Canadian calls for bids often favour US industry, today, France is the fifth-leading investor in Canada, with the presence of big French groups in industry and services, and now in raw materials. In 2009, 452 French companies were set up in Canada (including 340 in Quebec and 86 in Ontario), employing more than 80,000 people (12,500 for Sodexho, 7,500 for Lafarge, 3,700 for Michelin, etc.). Total has started an ambitious programme to promote the bituminous sands of Athabasca (Alberta).

There are 180 subsidiaries of Canadian companies (Bombardier, Aastra, Cascades, McCain, Quebecor, SNC Lavalin, Encana) in France, which is the seventh-leading destination of Canadian FDI
