Economic relations

France is the leading European exporter to Cambodia, which trades mainly with its Asian partners. Cambodia is one of the ASEAN countries with which France enjoys its best market shares (1.5%).

However, for France, Cambodia is a modest trading partner, with total trade volume of €158M for 2010. While bilateral trade is growing, the deficit balance stands at €66M.

The clothing and textiles sector accounts for almost all of our imports (97%), with rice also comprising a source of imports since 2009. Our leading export items are agrifood products (32%), pharmaceuticals (31%) and electrical and electronic equipment (17%).

There are now about 50 French subsidiaries; Vinci (concession of three airports), Accor (two Sofitels) and Total (distribution and an exploration and production block and second one in negotiations) form the core of a system that is primarily made up of SMEs, in addition to about 100 local companies led or controlled by French citizens. A reciprocal investment protection and promotion agreement was signed in July 2000.
