France deplores yesterday’s arrest, at a protest vigil dedicated to the first anniversary of the presidential election on December 19, 2010, of about 30 people, including a former candidate in this election, Mr. Vitaly Rymaszewski.
ReadAt the political level, contacts with the Belarusian government are in line with the European position: limited in terms of civil society experts until 2008, they resumed in the aftermath of the policy of conditioned re-engagement. Accordingly, in January 2010, and for the first time since 1996, a high-level ministerial visit took place with Belarusian Vice-PM Vladimir Semachko’s trip to Paris. In particular, this latter met with the French Presidency’s Secretary-General, the Secretary of State for European Affairs and the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade.
