Angola and France share many common interests: regional security (stabilization in the Great Lakes region), the French language and economic interests.
The French President went to Luanda on 23 May 2008. This visit was preceded by that of Mr. Jean-Marie Bockel, Secretary of State for Cooperation and Francophonie on 15 November 2007. Demonstrating a return to mutual trust, the presidential visit was an opportunity for an in-depth meeting between the two heads of state, who agreed to hold regular dialogues on international - especially African - issues. The President was accompanied by Ms. Anne-Marie Idrac, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Mr. Alain Joyandet, Secretary of State for Cooperation and Francophonie, members of parliament and business representatives (Total, Air France, Castel, Thalès, EADS, Bolloré and Société Générale).
Angola’s President is expected to make a State visit to France in return.
