  • Afghanistan – Statement by Laurent Fabius (21.04.15)

    700 locally hired civilian personnel, most of them Afghan nationals, worked with the French forces in Afghanistan from 2002 to 2014. A commission has been set up to examine their applications to settle in France. 258 applications have been filed. To date, 73 visa applications concerning 179 people have been accepted.

    France condemns the heinous attack perpetrated on April 18 in Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan, which killed numerous civilians.

  • Afghanistan – Ministerial conference (03-04.12.14)

    In the context of Afghanistan’s political, security and economic transition, this conference will provide an opportunity for the new national unity government to present its economic program and its reform plan, which the international community intends to support. A joint statement will be adopted following the meeting.

  • Afghanistan – Death of an American general (05.08.14)

    We were dismayed to learn of the death of a U.S. general serving in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), who was killed on August 5 by an Afghan soldier near Kabul. In a separate incident that same day in Uruzgan province, seven Afghan soldiers were reportedly killed by a man wearing an Afghan police uniform. France offers its condolences to the victims’ families and wishes those who were injured during these incidents a swift recovery.

  • Afghanistan – Second round of the presidential elections (14.06.14)

    France commends the determination of the Afghan people who expressed their will on June 14 in the second round of the presidential elections. Despite threats and violence, voters turned out in large numbers, signaling their desire to contribute to the future of Afghanistan in a democratic manner.

  • Afghanistan – Presidential elections – Statement by Laurent Fabius (07.04.14)

    Despite the attempts at intimidation and acts of violence on occasion, a large number of voters went to the polls. France commends the courage and determination of the Afghan people who, in this way, signaled their determination to take control of their future and to see their country make progress on the path toward democracy and peace.

    France reaffirms its support for the journalists who work, with courage and determination, to promote the freedom of information in Afghanistan. It is mobilized, notably within the United Nations, to ensure that the safety of journalists is guaranteed everywhere.

  • Meeting between Laurent Fabius and his Afghan counterpart (04.09.13)

    Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received september 4 his Afghan counterpart, Zalmay Rassoul. This meeting took place at a time when the transition process and in particular the preparations for the upcoming presidential elections – which are key to Afghanistan’s stability - are under way.
