France hails the abolition of the death penalty in the state of Connecticut following Governor Dannel Malloy’s signature on April 25 of the bill adopted by the state legislature.

Connecticut thus becomes the 17th U.S. state to renounce this cruel and inhuman treatment.

France notes its unwavering opposition to the death penalty everywhere and in all circumstances. It considers the abolition of the death penalty essential to the protection of human dignity.

France reiterates its call for the implementation of a universal moratorium on the death penalty with a view to its definitive abolition.
