UK - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (13.06.17)

Q - The British Brexit minister said yesterday that negotiations could not begin on June 19, due to the election results. Does Paris want to push back the starting date?

A - As Michel Barnier, chief negotiator in charge of preparing and conducting the negotiations with the United Kingdom, has reiterated, the EU is ready to begin negotiating as soon as the British are ready.

In the steps adopted on April 29 and in the mandate adopted on May 22, the 27 member states have agreed on a clear position with respect to both the timetable and the goals of the negotiations. It is up to the European Commission to follow through with these discussions.
