In a few days’ time, jointly with our embassies in Kuwait and Qatar, the French Embassy in the United Arab Emirates will launch the second Fémis summer school for young film-makers from the Gulf.
Our political relations are long-standing and privileged. Our relations are marked by a strong convergence of views on regional issues and personal relationships forged between the leaders of both countries.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, (June 27th, 2007) and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Emir of Abu Dhabi (July 20th, 2007), both received by the President of the Republic, conducted official visits to France following his election.
The President of the Republic has conducted two official visits to Abu Dhabi.
During his first trip, on January 15th, 2008, several important agreements were signed, including:
an agreement regarding developing peaceful uses for nuclear energy;
an administrative procedure for setting up classes in mathematics and physical sciences in pilot schools in Abu Dhabi;
an administrative agreement regarding cooperation on intellectual property;
an agreement on cooperation in the field of transportation.
During the official visit on May 25th and 26th, 2009, the President of the Republic inaugurated the French military facility in Abu Dhabi and proceeded to lay the cornerstone for the future Abu Dhabi Louvre. Three texts were also signed:
an agreement regarding cooperation in defense matters;
a homeland security agreement;
a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in diplomatic and consular representation.
