Ukraine – Threats to the OSCE monitoring mission (9 May 2017)

Another incident involving a patrol from the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine occurred on May 5 near Petrivske, in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

The OSCE monitors were threatened by armed men and one of its members was subjected to sexual harassment.

France strongly condemns any obstacles to the smooth unfolding of the OSCE mission, particularly deliberate, systematic intimidation by separatists. Those responsible must be identified and held accountable for their actions.

We call on all the parties to the conflict, and particularly the separatists, to guarantee free, unhampered and safe access to the OSCE mission in their areas of responsibility and to begin implementing the Minsk agreement, the only path toward resolving the conflict. Within the Normandy Format, France and Germany will relentlessly pursue their efforts to this end.
